How Blook handles your data
Private beta · updated 26 September 2026
Blook is a small private beta, run by the person who invited you. This page says, in plain words, what Blook keeps, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.
What Blook keeps
- Your name, email address and profile picture, from the account you sign in with.
- If you add a passkey: its public key, the device you added it on, and when it was last used. Your face and fingerprint never leave your device.
- Your books: which ones you own, want or were suggested, whether you have them printed, as an ebook or an audiobook (and in which app), your reading progress and the dates.
- Who you share your library with, the books you suggest to friends, and your loans – including names you type for people who aren't on Blook.
- Feedback you send, with the screen you were on and your browser, so bugs can be tracked down.
- Usage counts: the days you used Blook, how many photos you scanned, how many books were matched, and any errors. These show what's working during the beta.
Photos, screenshots and imports
- When you scan, or add screenshots of your library in an app like Kindle or Audible, the pictures go to Anthropic's Claude AI to read the titles. Blook doesn't keep the pictures – only the books you confirm.
- Anthropic doesn't use them to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how long it holds them.
- When you ask for suggestions, the list of books on your shelves (not you) is sent to Claude the same way.
- A Goodreads or StoryGraph export is read on your device. Only each book's title, author, ISBN, format and reading dates reach Blook – not your ratings, reviews or notes.
- Titles and ISBNs are looked up in public catalogues – Open Library, and Apple Books or Google Books when Open Library doesn't know a book. Nothing about you is sent with them.
- When you check where to buy a book, its title and ISBN are looked up in the Apple Books store for ebook and audiobook prices. Shop links open the shop's own website. Nothing about you is sent.
- If you link a barcode to a book the catalogues didn't know, Blook remembers which book that ISBN is, so it's recognised for everyone. It doesn't record who linked it.
Who can see what
- Friends you share with see the books you own and want. They don't see suggestions or who has your books.
- The person running Blook has an admin dashboard showing your name, email, when you last used Blook, counts (books, scans, friends), the AI cost of your scans and your feedback. It doesn't show which books are on your shelves, your notes to friends or who you lend to.
- Your feedback may be summarised by Claude, so the common themes stand out.
- No ads, no selling data, no tracking cookies. The only cookie keeps you signed in.
Where it lives
- Blook and its database are hosted with Railway, a cloud hosting company.
- It's a test version. The database is backed up daily and before every update (the backups stay with Railway), but please don't make Blook the only record of a precious collection just yet.
Deleting your data
- Your account → Delete my account removes you and everything you've added straight away. Copies in database backups are replaced as the backups roll over.
- Questions, or want something removed? Use Send feedback in the menu.
